To the lovely people who read these~
Jesus Christ is perfect which means He was also the perfect leader. He was not afraid to make demands of those he led. His leadership was not condescending or
soft. He had the courage to call Peter and others to leave their fishing nets and to follow Him, not after the fishing season or after the next catch, but now! today! Jesus let people know that He believed in them and in their possibilities; therefore, He was able to help them stretch and grow. While others would have seen Peter as a fisherman, Jesus could see him as a powerful religious leader who was strong and courageous and would affect many lives. Jesus gave people truths and tasks that were matched to their capacity. He did not overwhelm them with more than they could manage, but gave them enough to stretch their souls. Jesus was concerned about bringing lasting changes, not simply cosmetic changes.
This gospel is a gospel of change. When Christ called his Apostles, he called fishers. He called those of humble background and circumstance. He knew that they would have to change. I don’t think they fully understood at the time He asked them to be “Fishers of men” exactly what He meant. I don’t think they were fully aware of the change they would soon encounter. But they had the faith to start and the faith to follow Christ. Following our Savior is a lifelong pursuit that requires constant change. It won’t ever be easy. Sometimes we will feel like returning to our nets, but as we revert, the Savior is always there with his loving admonition to continue in our path of change.
We invited a lot of people to change this week. We invited Jiang Baba to make the last final change and completely quit smoking. We invited people who have been meeting with missionaries for forever to finally commit to really studying the Book of Mormon. We invited someone to follow Christ and be baptized. We invited LAs back to church for the first time in a long time. We invited missionaries to be spending more time working with members instead of finding on the street. We invited members of our coordination meeting to truly fulfill their callings and minister to those who have wandered from the Covenant path. We invited youth to make changes in their lives to start preparing themselves spiritually to serve missions. I invited myself to change to make sure I’m truly converted to Jesus Christ.
This gospel is a gospel of change. But it’s the best change we could ever ask for. I know this church is true.
I love you all so so so much!!!
