“Tangled”

Hello!

This week I caught myself singing some music from the movie, “Tangled”, and while thinking about it a little more, I was able to tie it into the Gospel. It was pretty cool, so I think I’ll share it with you.

If by chance you don’t remember the movie at all, there’s a scene where Rapunzel is finally watching these floating lanterns take off from a boat. She is mesmerized to finally be in on the action instead of watching from a window in a faraway tower. She begins to sing a song that has this lyric:

“And at last I see the light
And it’s like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it’s like the sky is new
And it’s warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you”

Let me explain the connection…

line_83221219305008I am out here every day on the streets of Taiwan trying to find people prepared to hear this message. In watching these people prepare to be baptized, there’s a common theme of, “I found something I didn’t know was missing” or “It filled a hole I didn’t even know was there”.

All of these people live in this fog. And they think they are happy and have the best they can because that’s the life they know and understand and is comfortable to them.

But then we missionaries bring this light into their life. The light of Jesus Christ. It’s new. It’s bright. It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But most importantly, it’s real.

Alma 38:9 says, “And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.”

Ruby is someone who is desperately trying to find the light of Christ. In out first meeting with her, she wanted to know all the answers as to why God let’s bad things happen to good people. She opened up about struggles and the reality that she feels her life has no purpose. It broke my heart, but as I felt the love of our Heavenly Father for her, I began to testify of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This is the greatest message of hope that we can share! Wow is it a blessing to see the little glimmer of hope return to people’s eyes.

She feels like most days there’s not much energy left to give in order to try and build a relationship with Jesus Christ. But as we promised her so many blessings this week, she began to start her day with prayer and a quick study of the Book of Mormon. Her message to us was one of gratefulness. She said that even though the change was new and sometimes hard, she felt she had the strength and energy to face even the hardest days.

I know that Christ is our light! I love bringing this joy and light of Christ to others!

I love you all so so so much!!!
